The Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) on Monday commended the
decision of the Nigerian Medial Association to suspend its 55-day-old industrial action.

The Acting General Secretary of NLC, Mr Chris Uyot, gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.

Uyot said that it was needful for all hands to be on deck to effectively tackle the Ebola virus currently affecting the country.

“We want to commend the NMA for suspending its strike at this trial moment.
“All hands should now be on deck to ensure that this current health challenge is eradicated
“We want to appreciate the Federal Government for the proactive measures in making sure that every issue was resolved.
“I do not know what the terms are for the suspension but the good thing is that the strike is now suspended and the sector can move forward”.
Uyot said that the NLC was not part of the negotiation that led to the suspension of the strike because the NMA is not an affiliate of the congress.
Meanwhile, the Joint Health Sector Union has maintained that the NMA strike was illegal, selfish and uncalled for.
Mr. Ayuba Wabba, the National President of JOHESU, told NAN in Abuja that the association was not a registered trade union.
Wabba said that the union had challenged the constitutional rights of NMA to go on strike, thereby paralysing the activities in the health sector.
NAN reports that the Nigeria Medical Association began a nationwide strike on July1. (NAN)
