Manchester Utd Sign Radamel Falcao on a Season-Long Loan

Manchester United have announced the signing of Radamel Falcao on a one-year loan deal from AS Monaco with an option to buy at the end of the period.

The Premier League club have not revealed the actual figures of the transfer, which is reportedly worth £6m with the permanent purchase option set to cost
€55m (£43.5m) at the end of the season.

Falcao said: “I am delighted to be joining Manchester United on loan this season. Manchester United is the biggest club in the world and is clearly determined to get back to the top. I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal and contributing to the team’s success at this very exciting period in the club’s history.”

Falcao joined Monaco from Atletico Madrid for £50m in May last year, and despite an injury hit first season still managed to score 11 goals in 19 appearances in all competitions.
He had been linked with a move away from the principality club during the summer. Speculation over his future gathered steam after he was dropped from the Ligue 1 club’s squad shortly before Saturday’s draw against Lille.

Having joined Atletico from Portuguese club Porto in 2011, Falcao went on to score 35 goals in 46 league games.

His best season came in 2012-2013 when he bagged 34 goals in 41 games in all competitions as Atletico Madrid won the Copa del Rey and finished third in La Liga.

He has made three appearances in the French league this season, after returning from anterior cruciate ligament damage he sustained in January, which ruled him out of the World Cup.

Louis van Gaal said: “I am delighted Radamel has joined us on loan this season. He is one of the most prolific goalscorers in the game. His appearance-to-goal ratio speaks for itself and, when a player of this calibre becomes available, it is an opportunity not to be missed.”

The 28-year-old, who scored 72 goals in 87 appearances for Porto, becomes United’s sixth signing this summer after defenders Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, midfielder Ander Herrera, forward Angel Di Maria and the Netherlands international Daley Blind, whose deal was also confirmed on the 2014 summer transfer deadline day.
